Hybrid bearings have a ring made of bearing steel and a rolling element made of bearing-quality silicon nitride (Si3N4). Hybrid bearings are not only excellent electrical insulators, they are also approved for higher speeds and have significantly lower maintenance requirements than bearings manufactured entirely from steel. Silicon nitride has very good electrical insulation properties. This material protects the rings from damage due to electrical current and thus extends the life of the bearing.
