Single row

Single row deep groove ball bearings are constructed with one row of ball bearings. This bearing type is available in an open configuration, with seals or with shields.

Double row

Double row deep groove ball bearings are constructed with two rows of ball bearings. These bearings offer a higher load carrying capacity than a single row bearing. This bearing type is only available in an open configuration.

Material

Deep groove ball bearings are typically made of chrome steel, but are also available in stainless steel and polymer. Chromium steel bearings have a higher load carrying capacity than stainless steel bearings of similar size. Stainless steel deep groove ball bearings are resistant to corrosion caused by moisture or other media. Polymer ball bearings are typically used in applications where resistance to moisture or other chemicals is essential and steel cannot be used.

Sealing

With Sealing
Bearings that are "with sealing" include products with seal or shields. Shields and seals protect the bearing from contamination and because these products are lubricated during productions, greasing maintenance is not required. Shields are typically made of metal or plastic and do not touch the shield bore or the inner ring. Seals are made of elastomers and offer an option of no-contact, which is similar to a shield, or contact, which means the seal touches the inner ring. Contact seals provide the strongest protection against dirt and dust.

Without Sealing
Bearings that are "without sealing" have an open configuration that may require greasing maintenance. Double row bearings are always "without sealing."

Internal clearance

Baseline internal clearance is referred to as Normal, which indicates that the operational clearance will be suitable if the bearings are mounted as recommended and operating conditions are standard (or normal). If these conditions are met, the internal clearance is considered Normal. If, however, either the operating conditions or mounting conditions are non-standard (or abnormal), internal clearance must be adjusted accordingly. The radial internal clearance suffix designations for standard deep groove ball bearings are as follows:

C1 – Internal clearance smaller than C2
C2 - Internal clearance smaller than Normal
CN - Normal internal clearance
C3 – Internal clearance greater than Normal
C4 – Internal clearance greater than C3
C5 – Internal clearance greater than C4

Cage

Cage design, as well as its material, has a large impact on overall bearing performance. As the balls pass through the load zone, the cage is responsible for maintaining uniform ball spacing in the bearing. Operational characteristics such as maximum rotational speed, torque characteristics, temperature limits and lubricant flow are also influenced by the cage. The most common cage materials are stamped or machined brass and steel. Some cages may also be made of polymers, such as Polyamide 66.
